The Hounds of Falsterbo - a Great Discovery

Inspiration on the beach

It has been an interesting week, finally catching up with people after the break, and taking delivery of a couple of belated Birthday presents. And oh joy! What a lovely "booky" surprise from my friend Val and Lassa, and how apt. The book feels like a coffee table book, but can be enjoyed by young and old just by the way it is written with short witty poems.   

The Hounds of Falsterbo 

The work by local artist, Jules Nilsson was inspired by the curious antics of her dog and those of a friend who owns the local cafe Kust....

They are lucky enough to get their kicks on the local beach near me and these are some of the images... 

You can see more about the hounds here. I love the way she has captured the characters of her dogs, and the atmosphere around the beach huts and heather. If you  get a chance take a look. I am also pleased to find someone else who describes such fine canine characters as "the fluffy gentleman".

I think that I will be making some Crazyhound characters inspired by these fellows, and I am going to get to meet them in the fur next week.... so watch this space. Thanks Jules and thanks to those dogs.

April Flight - bird soft sculpture

Surrounded by lovely birds in these parts, I seem to have become addicted to sketching them, and making little models based on the little chaps that hop about the garden. Thank you Mr Crazyhound for taking this lovely photo. The real things - they wake us up at the moment as they chirp as soon as the sun is up. Once again this little bird was inspired by Abby Glassenberg's designs that give such a good base for your own designs. 

I am off from these parts for a few weeks, heading south, me and the dogs and our trusty (or is that rusty??) old car hoping to get inspiration from the markets, villages and country of France and England.  I am looking forward to getting my paints and pencils out and doing something different. At the moment I am rediscovering the work of someone who inspired me before - Philippe Charles-Jacquet . An artist inspired by boats and the sea, and magical landscapes - and he uses paints that you find in your local DIY store to achieve some wonderful effects.        

Autumn leaves - Cozy cushions, pumpkins and walking on the beach

October is almost over and the leaves are starting to fall. We had a great walk this week on the beautiful beach just 5 minutes away, seems we weren't the only ones !

On the way back we passed a garden store just piled high with pumpkins, gourds and Halloween finery. I just love the colour of them no matter how many I see, or how often I see them.

I am reading a good book at the moment about live in Sweden from the 1850s to modern times - "Hanna's Duaghters" . I has given me a great insight into the tough life of people here when they depended on what they could grow or trade to survive. If you have time I recommend it.  

Finally.... on the craft front, gearing up for Christmas and Christmas Fairs, the sewing machine is hot, and I have just finished an Autumn cushion for myself. I have had the crocheted oak leaves for ages, and now I have finally got around to fixing it in place.
